With novel coronavirus (Covid-19) concerns growing across the country, the Meghalaya Government has decided to shut down all educational institutions – primary schools to universities – from march 17th, 2020 till March 31st, 2020.

The Health & Family Welfare (H & FW) Department mentioned that all the educational institutes within the state will remain closed except for holding the examination.

The places of mass gatherings like cinema halls, malls, gyms, major sports events and swimming pools too will remain closed till March 31st, 2020.

This comes after the Assam government decided to shut all schools, colleges, universities, movie halls, gyms and swimming pools to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

“All non-essential travel outside and into the state is to be postponed or avoided. Visiting big open and enclosed markets and tourists places are to be avoided,” according to a notification issued by the Government of Meghalaya.

The H & FW also instructed the citizens to maintain social distancing and hand-hygiene in places of work and worship.

The notified fairs and festivals have also be postponed in view of the coronavirus outbreak.

“Close contact in public transport is to be avoided. Companies or offices with work from home option may permit employees to do so,” the notification added.
