Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on March 26th, 2020, said that meat and fish will also be available during the lockdown along with essential commodities.
The CM made this statement during his visit to the Tezpur Medical College and Hospital to review the coronavirus treatment preparations.
Meanwhile, the Food, state Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs department has arranged to sell vegetables in Guwahati from March 27th, 2020 onwards. The vegetables will be sold in seven designated places of the city – Sixmile, Ulubari, Ganeshguri, Fancy Bazar, Narengi, Maligaon and Silpukhuri.
The officers, attached with each van to oversee the selling activity, have been directed to ensure proper maintenance of social distancing among the staff and customers.
The state government has also fixed the timing of operation for wholesalers to make essential items like medicines, grocery items, fruits, vegetables and milk accessible to the people during the 21-day COVID-19 lockdown. The timing of operation for wholesalers is 8 am to 4 pm and for retailers is 8 am to 7 pm.
CM Sonowal urged the trader bodies to take adequate steps for control of prices so that common people do not have to suffer.
Meanwhile, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration today announced that the grocery section of shopping malls and departmental stores will remain open during the lockdown.
An order issued by the Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu stated the grocery section shall solely sell grocery items, and at current market prices.
