‘Mahabharat’ To Air Everyday On DD Bharti Starting Mar 28

The Hindi mythological series, Mahabharat with a total of ninety-four episodes had its original run from October 2nd, 1988 to June 24th, 1990 on DD National.


Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar have announced the airtime for the rerun of the eighties iconic show, Mahabharat. The epic historical series will air every day beginning March 28th, 2020

“Happy to announce that DD Bharati will relay from tomorrow Saturday 28th March, the popular serial ‘Mahabharat’ at 12 noon and 7 pm every day,” Javadekhar said.

Doordarshan started the retelecast of the iconic mythological series Ramayana from March 28th, 2020 onwards. Two episodes will be aired in a day from 9 am-10 am and from 9 pm to 10 pm.

It was produced by BR Chopra and directed by his son, Ravi Chopra. It is the most successful Mahabharata series ever produced for television.

The music was composed by Raj Kamal. The script was written by the Urdu poet Rahi Masoom Raza, based on the original story by Vyasa.

Costumes for the series were provided by Maganlal Dresswala. Each episode ran for approximately 60 minutes and began with a title song that consisted of lyrical content and two verses from the Bhagavad Gita.

The title song was sung and the verses rendered by singer Mahendra Kapoor. The title song was followed by a narration by Indian voice-artist Harish Bhimani of a personification of Time, detailing the current circumstances and highlighting the spiritual significance of the content of the episode.
