Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) struck gold at the Magomed Salam Umakhanov Memorial International Boxing Tournament 2019 in Kaspiysk, Russia on August 3rd, 2019.
Hailing from Golaghat district of Assam, Lovlina has faced Assunta Canfora from Italy before. The World Championship bronze medallist boxer was on guard throughout the bout.
It may be mentioned, the 2019 Strandja Cup bronze medallist Lovlina was in top form in her quarter-final bout with Russia’s Anastasiya Sigaeva whom she outpunched 5-0. She will next take on Belarusian Alina Veber for a place in the final.

Lovlina’s career’s biggest break came when she was selected to participate in the 2018 Commonwealth Games welterweight boxing category. She represented India for the first time at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championship, held in New Delhi, where she won the bronze medal in the Welterweight (69 kg) category in November 2018.
Congratulatory messages poured for Lovlina whose flurry of punches helped reverse the India Open scoreline in her favour, and grab a narrow 3-2 win.
