Good news for all Guwahatians. The foundation stone for the for 1.5 km-long double-lane flyover at Dispur Supermarket on the Guwahati-Shillong (GS) Road was laid on December 8th, 2019 by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in presence of Assam PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The T shaped double-lane flyover connecting Dispur Supermarket to Khanapara and Last Gate (Golchakkar) once completed will be the longest flyover of the city. Once completed, it will be the longest flyover in the entire Northeastern region.

The flyover will start in front of the Janata Bhawan at Dispur and end at the Down Town police point. The right-side bifurcation will start from the Dispur Supermarket point to terminate before the Golchakkar at Last Gate.

The flyover is scheduled to be completed within three years. “The flyover is an attempt to ease traffic congestion at one of the busiest area of the city to a large extent,” Sonowal said. An amount of Rs 127.20 crore has been sanctioned for the project.

“In recent years, our government has taken various steps to upgrade the infrastructural capabilities of Assam. It is our responsibility to make Guwahati one of the beautiful cities of India. I urge all to work together to keep the city neat and clean,” Sonowal added.

The construction of a new flyover connecting RG Baruah Road with Bishnu Rabha flyover at Ganeshguri Chariali is underway. The PWD is constructing the 476-metre flyover under State Own Priority Scheme-General with a financial outlay of Rs 58.76 crore.
