Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on April 14th, 2020 urged people to be “more determined” to fight against novel coronavirus (COVID-19)

Sonowal also urged the citizens to follow the social distancing and hygiene rules imposed during the COVID-19-induced nationwide lockdown which has been extended till May 3rd, 2020.

“On PM Shri @narendramodi ji”s call, let us together be more determined to fight #COVID2019. Follow #Lockdown rules till May 3 without any compromise. Stay Indoors. Stay Safe,” tweeted Sonowal.

The Assam government had earlier decided to support any decision taken by the Centre on extending the 21-day lockdown, which was to end on April 14th, 2020. 

Assam Chief Minister on April 14th, 2020 wished people on the occasion of Rongali Bihu and Assamese New year. He also appealed to them to light an earthen lamp at 6 pm on their courtyard on April 14th, 2020 to dispel the darkness spread by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sonowal recently held an all-party meeting and decided to proceed unitedly as ‘Team Assam’ to tackle the challenges posed by COVID-19 pandemic.

The Chief Minister also offered gratitude to the frontline personnel in this battle, including the doctors, nurses, other health workers and police.

Sonowal on April 13th, 2020 directed the Baska district administration to take “stop movement” across the Indo-Bhutan border in the district.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also requested the people to abide by the restrictions announced by Modi.

Assam has reported 31 positive cases for COVID-19 till April 13th, 2020 including nine cases from Golaghat, four each from Nalbari and Morigaon, Goalpara districts, three from Dhubri and one each from South Salmara, Kamrup (Metro), Kamrup, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Cachar, and Hailakandi.

A patient from Hailakandi district succumbed to the infection at Silchar Medical College and Hospital on April 10th, 2020.
