The temple doors opened in the morning after the ritualistic bathing of the Goddess Kamakhya. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma were among the first visitors to the temple. Chief Minister Sonowal extended his gratitude to all devotees from across the country who visited the temple.
Sonowal offered prayers for the welfare and growth of the state. The Chief Minister also expressed his gratitude to the Shaktipeeth Kamakhya Devalaya and security forces for the success of the mela. “May Maa Kamakhya’s divine blessings bring happiness and peace in everyone’s life,” Sonowal tweeted.
Ambubachi Mela, a fair to mark the annual menstruation of the goddess at Kamakhya temple in Guwahati, kick-started from the midnight of June 22nd, 2019 and concluded on June 26th, 2019 morning. The mela is the biggest Hindu congregation in this region.
Every year, the famed Kamakhya Temple atop the Nilachal Hills attracts thousands of people from across the country and abroad during the mela. Last year, the festival had recorded a footfall of over 20 lakh.
