Continuing their opposition against the Centre’s proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, the students of Cotton University embarked on a massive poster making drive and adorned the campus walls with handmade posters on November 25th, 2019.

The students expressed their resentment against the Bill and hung posters which read ‘Cottonians oppose CAB’, ‘Withdraw CAB immediately‘, ‘Stop doing politics using students’, ‘Jatiya Nayak Hai Hai’ and so on.

It may be mentioned that the All Assam Students Union had given the title of ‘Jatiya Nayak’ (national hero)to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal when the Supremes Court struck down the IMDT Act in 2005.

The Bill seeks to grant Indian citizenship to the people belonging to the Hindus, Jains, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Parsis who have become the victims of religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan and entered India on or before December 31st, 2014.

The Centre has time and again asserted that the Citizenship Bill would be passed in the country.
