ISIS-Inspired Man Arrested In Goalpara Was Involved In ‘Love Jihad’

One of the three suspected ISIS operatives, who were arrested in Western Assam’s Goalpara district on November 24th, 2019, was allegedly involved in love jihad controversy seven months back.

According to police sources, the accused Luit Zameel Zaman (24) had an affair with a Hindu girl in his home town Krishnai in the district. People suspecting the affair as love jihad spread the news across the town resulting involvement of police in the case. Later, the girl was rescued.

A special team of the Delhi police with the help of the Goalpara police arrested Zaman, Ranjeet Islam and Mukadir Islam from the town when they were allegedly on their way for a terror attack at Rass festival in Dudhnoi in the district.

Speaking to the media persons, the Additional DSP Amitabh Barman said, “An Improvised Explosive Device, timer and other IED components were recovered from the possession of the accused.”

A case (No 709/2019) under relevant sections of the relevant acts has been lodged with the Goalpara Sadar police against the accused. They were produced in the court on November 25th, 2019 and have been sent to 10-day Assam Police remand.

The Delhi police also said that the arrestees were reportedly planning a terror attack in the national capital.
