Immediate Release Of Ex-Gratia For Landslide Victims In Barak Valley

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed grief over the loss of lives in the incidents of landslides triggered by incessant rain in the districts of Barak valley.

The Chief Minister directed the Deputy Commissioners of three Barak valley districts of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi along with SDRF to speed up relief and rescue operations and extend all possible help to those affected by the landslides. He also directed the district administration to immediately release ex-gratia to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the tragic incidents.

Moreover, Chief Minister Sonowal instructed the district administrations to take steps to provide necessary medical facilities to those injured in the incidents.  

At least 20 persons in Assam’s Barak Valley lost their lives in massive landslides across the region.

As per reports, seven persons in Hailakandi, Seven persons in Cachar’s Jaipur and Six persons in Karimganj were reported to be dead in the landslides on Tuesday.

Landslides occurred in four places in the region due to the incessant rain. In Hailakandhi, four minors and three adults were confirmed to be dead while in Cachar, two women among seven total deaths were confirmed. In Karimganj, till the filing of this report, six were confirmed dead.

At least 30 houses were reported to be been destructed during these landslides and it has been suspected that there are many more affected by these landslides.

Emergency response teams are trying to recover all the affected persons and attempts to ensure that no further lives are lost are still on.

Minister Parimal Suklabaidya have ensured the people that all possible help will be extended to the victims of the disaster.
