Huge Cache Of Arms And Ammunition Recovered In Chirang

The arms and ammunition were recovered inside the Maoria forest

Acting on specific inputs, the Chirang police and 5th Garhwal Rifles of Indian Army in a joint operation recovered a huge cache of lethal weapons and ammunition inside the Maoria Jungle, north of the Janata Bazar BOP of 15th BN SSB under the Koila Moila Police Outpost on October 16th, 2019.

Chirang Superintendent of Police, Sudhakar Singh said, “Digging was done at multiple places on the basis of inputs. At one place, one packet packed in black polyethene containing some suspected items and one plastic jar was recovered. The arms and ammunition were recovered from the packet.”

The operation led by the Bijni Sub-Divisional Police Officer was conducted at around 10:30 am today.

The recovered items are:

  • 7.62 AK series live ammunition: 101
  • 5.56 live Ammunition: 08
  • 7.62 sniper live ammunition: 03
  • Empty cartridges: 02
  • Crude Bomb: 02
  • Chinese Hand Grenade: 01
  • No. 36 Hand Grenade: 01
  • Electric Detonator with wire – 10

On September 24th, 2019, a huge cache of arms and ammunition belonging to the banned militant outfit Saoraigwra-led National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDBF-S) was recovered in Chirang in a joint operation launched by the district police, 5th Garhwal Rifles and 54 Bn SSB in Gabrukhunda inside Panbari Reserve Forest.
