Assam Excise Minister Parimal Suklabaidya on April 4th, 2020 stated that home delivery of alcoholic beverages is not allowed in the state during the nationwide lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus.
This comes after a Facebook post regarding home delivery of liquor in Guwahati went viral on social media. The Facebook post claimed that one H.D Wine Shop is providing home delivery of liquor.
“There are no such delivery services at present and attempt of such delivery is a criminal offence under the provisions of the present law,” said Suklabaidya.
He added, “I have asked the Excise Department officials to look into the matter and directed the wine shop authorities to lodge a cyber crime complaint against the one spreading such fake news.”
Several reports have surfaced that people have been duped by cyber fraudsters who promised to deliver liquor at doorstep amidst the coronavirus lockdown.
