Assam sprinter Hima Das and popular Assamese actor Jatin Bora announced to donate financial aid to the Chief Ministers’ Relief Fund for combating the spread of coronavirus.
Hima, nicknamed Dhing Express, on March 26th, announced to donate her one month’s salary to the government’s coronavirus relief fund.
“Friends it’s high time to stand together & support people who need us. I am contributing 1 month of my salary to Assam Govt in Assam Arogya Nidhi Account made to safeguard the health of people in the wake of Covid-19,” Das tweeted.
Joining the queue, Jatin Bora has also announced to donate Rs 1 lakh to the fund. Earlier, BJP leader Bhubaneswar Kalita, All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal and Congress MP from Barpeta constituency Abdul Khaleque also announced to donate financial aid.
Earlier, all the MLAs of Assam decided to donate their one month’s salaries to the fund to fight against the spread of the virus.
According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of positive coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 640. 17 deaths have taken place so far.
On March 24th, 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared nation-wide lockdown for 21 days to deal with the spread of coronavirus, saying that “social distancing” is the only option to deal with the disease, which spreads rapidly.
