The Kamrup (metro) district administration on April 30th, 2020 withdrew containment zone orders from the Spanish Garden, a luxury highrise apartment in Guwahati.

The district administration had barred the entry and exit of any person or vehicle from Spanish Garden after the first positive case of novel coronavirus (Covid-19) in the city was detected on April 3rd, 2020.

The health department sealed the apartment complex located at RG Baruah Road soon after the detection and also sanitized the premises.

“As no COVID-19 positive case has been detected since the declaration of Spanish Garden Apartment and its periphery as containment zone, hence as per guidelines received from the Indian Council of Medical Research, the containment zone is no longer effective and the restrictions that were so imposed, have been withdrawn from April 30,” the order said.

The order added, “However, the restrictions imposed in connection with lockdown will remain in force till further notification of Government of India is issued from the Ministry of Home Affairs.”

There are 150 flats in the complex in which a businessman, who tested positive for COVID1-9, lives with his family.

Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the businessman has recovered from COVID-19 infection.

The resident of the Spanish Garden is the first of the COVID-19 positive cases in Assam with no link to the Tablighi Jamaat held at Delhi’s Nizamuddin Markaz.

A total of 111 people, with whom he came in contact, were put under quarantined to check the spread of the virus. All tested negative.
