Guwahati’s Spanish Garden Complex Quarantined, Sanitization Underway

The businessman hails from Nagaon district of Assam and stays with his family in Flat No 704 at the Spanish Garden


After a businessman tested positive for novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Guwahati, the posh housing complex Spanish Garden in Zoo Road have been quarantined on April 4th, 2020.

The sanitization work undertaken by Gauhati Municipal Corporation with the help of its fire and emergency services is underway at the Spanish Garden, as a preventive measure to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.

The businessman hails from Nagaon district of Assam and stays with his family in Flat No 704, D Block at the Spanish Garden.

The businessman had travelled to Delhi on February 28th, 2020 and returned to Guwahati on March 1st, 2020. He did not visit Nizamuddin or the area of Markaz during his stay in the national capital territory.

The health department has shifted him to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital after he was found positive on April 3rd, 2020. He is said to be stable.

As per reports, the man and his family were on home quarantine since March 17th, 2020. The patient also has an asthma condition following which he admitted to the Midland Hospital in the city.

Advisory for residential apartments

The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has issued an advisory to the apartment societies to limit access to visitors and record their personal details as a part of the measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Pankaj Chakravarty, deputy secretary and state project coordinator, ASDMA, said that the advisory had been issued to create awareness among the people regarding coronavirus and the importance of social distancing.

The ASDMA directed the Deputy Commissioners of Kamrup (Metro), Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Cachar, Tinsukia, Bongaigaon Sivasagar, Golaghat, Hojai, Barpeta, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Biswanath districts to follow visitors protocol, shut down common activities, ensure cleaning of common premises, mechanism for contact-less delivery and ensure implementation of home quarantine, among others.
