GMCH Doctor Held For Writing Fraud Autopsy Reports Of Dead Patients

The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau sleuths on October 22nd, 2019 caught a doctor of the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital red-handed while taking bribe allegedly for issuing fake post-mortem report.

The accused doctor has been identified as Manoj Baishya (37), Assistant Professor of GMCH, Department of Forensic Medicine.

Baishya was caught red-handed while taking a sum of Rs 8000 from one Haren Kumar of Dispur area for issuing fraud post mortem report. The ACB team also seized the bribe money and connected documents (a certified copy of PM Report) from the possession of the accused.

The accused had allegedly demanded 50,000 from Kumar to issue a standard autopsy report. Later, the demand was negotiated at Rs 12,000 and on being compelled the complainant paid an amount of Rs.4000 to him on the spot. Later, Kumar approached the ACB in the matter.

As per information, Kumar was allegedly been harassed by the doctor since his brother Rameswar Prasad Shah’s death on September 19th, 2019 at the GMCH in the name of issuing the autopsy report.

The sleuths recovered a number of post mortem reports and other objectionable items from the possession of the accused.
