A team of Alpinists (climbers of Alps mountain range) from Germany explored a new six rock climbing route at Yume Samdong in North Sikkim and completed their first ascent on November 8th, 2019.
The Alpinists are Kai Maluck, Gaby Lappe and Clemes Pische.
The climbing route is about 26 kilometres from Yumthang valley and is located at an altitude of 15,300 feet above sea level. The Alpinists arrived in Sikkim with the help of Gangtok based Mangyal Tour and Treks which organizes expeditions.

After the climb, Maluck said, “We have done climbings all around the world but the scenery that we found here in Sikkim is truly amazing and that everything was good. Be it the weather, a place which has thin air, locations, support of local people and the rocks were also hard which altogether led to our success.”

He also said that they ascended six cliffs which were more than 30 meters in height and located at above 5000 meters in altitude and they had even set safe anchors (bolts) on the hard cliff for safety purposes as the place is far from civilization. They even had kept the space for safety climbing on all the cliffs and placed bolts at several places for future use.

Meanwhile, Coordinator for the trail, Tashi Bhutia said that it is a great moment for Sikkim as it’s tourism-based economy will attract more tourists from European countries. “These climbs will bring more opportunities for the local people,” he added.
