The officials of Gauhati University (GU) had to suddenly swing into action on the morning of December 1st, 2019 and clean up the varsity website after reports that the home page of the site was redirected to a page full of pornographic photographs.

As per the latest information, the varsity is reviewing its IT security system which had been clearly hacked. The website of the varsity is presently “not reachable”, at the time of filing this report. However, if open on incognito mode, the message is still visible.

On December 1st, 2019 morning when users tried to check into the website, along with a message, a link popped up on the screen – Upcoming question papers leaked: Question Papers. When users clicked on the link, they were directed to a pornographic site.

It may be mentioned, GU had to cancel and postpone the 3rd-semester Political Science examination due to “missing question paper”.

On November 29th, 2019, students were to supposed appear for the 3rd-semester Political Science paper. The paper has two parts – Indian Constitution and International Relations and students are supposed to answer from either one of the two optional parts. However, the Indian Constitution part was missing from the paper resulting in chaos like situation among the students.

The examination has now been re-scheduled on December 10th, 2019 from 9 am to 12 noon (Morning Shift). “Students if appeared in the International Relation option paper on 29-11-2019 need not to appear on 10-12-2019,” GU said.
