Gauhati MP Queen Oja was shown black flags on December 28th, 2019 by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) activists at Nagarbera in Kamrup district.

Anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protesters chased Oja’s convoy, waved black flags at her for supporting CAA and raised slogans against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

On December 27th, 2019 Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass too was greeted with black flags when he went to meet Chabua MLA Binod Hazarika in Dibrugarh district of Upper Assam. The anti-CAA protesters also waved black flags at the venue where the BJP had organised a meeting near Hazarika’s house.

Hazarika’s house was burnt down on December 12th, 2019 by protesters during the anti-CAA protests in the state.

Protests against the contentious CAA continued unabated across Assam on December 28th, 2019 primarily under the aegis of student bodies AASU with agitators vowing not to relent till the Centre scraps the law.

The AASU on December 28th, 2019 organised a massive public rally at Sualkuchi in Kamrup district, which falls under state cabinet minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s constituency.

Violent protests broke out in several parts of the country after the citizenship law was passed in parliament on December 11th, 2019. Four people have been killed in police firing in Assam, while an oil tanker driver was charred to death when his vehicle was set on fire in Orang.
