Former Assam DGP Khagen Sarma Passes Away

Former Assam Director General of Police Khagen Sarma passed away at around 7.15 pm on October 25th, 2019 following a prolonged illness. The DGP was suffering from cancer and undergoing treatment at the Sun Valley Hospital in the city.

He, who helmed the special branch (SB) of Assam police for over a decade, had played a key role in bringing many militant groups to the negotiating table. Sarma had played an important role as Sub-Divisional police Officer in Majuli, the island district now, in 1990 in neutralising the activities of United Liberation Front of Asom.
