The Assam Public Works (APW) lodged an FIR with the Crime Investigation Department (CID) against the former state coordinator for National Register of Citizens (NRC), Assam Prateek Hajela.

The body accused Hajela of tempering the final list of the NRC published on August 31st, 2019, disobeying the orders of the Supreme Court, making a false document, causing forgery of public register and committing offences under Cyber laws for altering/changing the public records by misusing his powers and positions.

While addressing a press meet here in Guwahati, APW president Abhijit Sarma said that the body had earlier submitted a memorandum requesting third-party audit of NRC Software, application and IT Infrastructure, and petitioning high-level probe of corruption by the former Coordinator Prateek Hajela.

In the memorandum, the APW alleged huge corruption in employing Data Entry Operators of the same immigrant community in the NRC Seva Kendra of the immigrant dominated areas, leading to a lack of proper verification of ‘Family Tree’ and legacy data.

It alleged that WIPRO, BOHNIMAN SYSTEM Pvt. Ltd., Maddoc Technologies, Trans Technologies Solutions, and RJ-45 Technologies, software developer companies, were involved in fund embezzlement of Rs 100 crores.
