    Fighting Back Tears, CRPF Jawan Sunil Kalita’s Wife Salutes Her Husband

    Guwahati, June 15, 2019

    All eyes turned moist as young Padumi gave a salute to her husband Constable Sunil Kalita, in Rangia in Kamrup rural district of Assam on June 15th, 2019 morning. Kalita got married on April 10th this year.

    Kalita was posted with the 209th battalion of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), the elite jungle-warfare battalion of the CRPF. He had sustained injuries in an Improvised explosive device (IED) blast during anti-naxal operations in Saraikela district of Jharkhand on May 28th, 2019.

    Sunil Kalita tied the knot with Padumi on April 10th this year.

    He was first admitted to the Bhagwan Mahavir Medica Super Specialty Hospital in Ranchi. Later, Kalita was airlifted to Delhi on June 4th, 2019. Kalita succumbed to his injuries at the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences on June 13th, 2019. Wrapped in tricolour, his mortal remains were brought to his native village on June 14th, 2019.

    A large crowd had gathered at Kalita’s residence located at Palara village under Kamalpur Police Station. People from different parts of the region visited the place to pay their respect to the brave soldier. Loud cries of ‘Jai Hind’, ‘Sunil Kalita Amar Hok’ reverberated in the air.

    All those present at Kalita’s residence became emotional as Padumi gave a salute to the mortal remains of her husband. The last rites of Kalita were performed on June 15th, 2019 with full state honours where too, a big crowd had turned up who showered petals on his mortal remains. Several shops and business establishments across the area downed their shutters as a mark of respect for Kalita.

    The CRPF jawan Kalita was born on February 1st, 1987. He joined the CRPF in Guwahati in 2011. In 2016, he joined the 209th CoBRA Battalion in Khulti district of Jharkhand. He is survived by his parents, wife, younger sister and brother.
