Ahead of the 2021 Assam Assembly Elections, the state Congress has faced major erosion as a number of leaders in former Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain’s constituency.

A total of nine Congress leaders resigned from the party in Assam’s Samaguri legislative constituency. This includes leaders with different designations. They are Aminul Hoque Khan (Vice President), Saif Uddin Ahmed (General Secretary), Abdul Kadir, Abujar Ahmed (General Secretary), Hasen Ali (Vice Ali), Nur Islam (General Secretary) and Nurul Amin (Executive Member).

It may be mentioned that the Congress faced embarrassing defeat in the recently held Delhi Assembly Elections for which the party has been widely criticised. The Bharatiya Janata Party had somehow managed eight seats out of 70. Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party had won 62 seats in the election.
