As many as 15 electric buses will roll out in the Guwahati city from November 4th, 2019, state-owned Assam State Transport Corporation(ASTC) Managing Director Anand Prakash Tiwari informed.

The e-buses will have movements in the arterial routes connecting Jalukbari to Khanapara area at present for six months and will increase its activity depending on its mobility, functionality and maintenance.

The public transports have been introduced with a view to tackling the menace of air and sound pollution in the city.

“Around 15 e-buses will ply in the city from November 4 in the first phase. We will add more e-buses in the coming months depending on its demand to cover all the major routes,” said Tiwari while speaking to TIME8.

It may be mentioned that the ASTC earlier in the month of August this year announced to operate around 1,000 e-buses. Reports stated that Hungary-based company, Csepel Holding, sat for an agreement with the ASTC to lease out the buses in a phase-wise manner.
