Do’s & Don’ts: Delhi Govt Issues Health Advisory On Coronavirus

The Delhi government on February 5th, 2020 issued a health advisory for the public on the novel Coronavirus(nCoV) along with a list of the do’s and don’ts to ward off any infection.

A 24×7 control Room has been set up at the Directorate General of Health Services’ headquarters to address people’s queries. Any person who wants any information about the virus may contact — 011-22307145, 22300012, 22300036.

It may be mentioned that there are three confirmed reports of the virus from the Indian state of Kerala.

In its advisory the government has asked the people to exercise caution:

  • Cleaning your hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Covering your nose and mouth while coughing.
  • Sneezing using tissue papers.
  • Avoiding close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms.
  • Avoid frozen meat.
  • Isolation of symptomatic patients for at least 14 days.

Here are DO’S

  • Frequently wash hands with soap and water;
  • Avoid crowded places;
  • Stay more than an arm’s length distance from persons sick with flu;
  • Take adequate sleep and rest;
  • Drink plenty of water and consume a liquid diet and eat nutritious food.

It also said “persons suffering from an influenza-like illness must be confined at home” and those suspected with such illness must consult a doctor.

Here are the DON’TS

  • To not touch eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands;
  • Avoid hugging, kissing and shaking hands while greeting people in public;
  • Do not spit in public places;
  • Avoid excessive physical exercise and disposal of used napkin or tissue paper in open areas;
  • Avoid touching surfaces usually used by public such as railings, door gates, avoid smoking in public places;
  • Do not go for unnecessary testing.

The Cabinet Secretary recently held a high-level meeting to review the actions taken for the management of Novel Coronavirus and preparedness of States for the same with Secretaries of Health and Family Welfare and other officials from Home Ministry, Commerce, Army and Defence.

In view of the evolving scenario related to 2019- nCOV, the following revised Travel Advisory is issued:

  • Existing visas (including eVisa already issued) are no longer valid for any foreign national travelling from China.
  • People have already been advised to refrain from travel to China through an earlier advisory. People travelling to China henceforth will be quarantined on return.
  • Intending visitors may contact Embassy in Beijing ([email protected]) or the Consulates in Shanghai ([email protected]) and Guangzhou ([email protected]) to apply afresh for an Indian visa.

The Home Ministry also informed that a total of 741 tests were conducted for the virus out of which 738 have tested negative and 3 were found positive. 342 are under process and 5123 people are under home surveillance.
