The United President Donald Trump, who was on a two-day visit to India, refrained from making any remark on the issues related to the Citizenship Amendment Act and asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants people to have religious freedom.
“I don’t want to say anything on the Citizenship Amendment Act. It is completely up to India. We did talk about religious freedom. Prime Minister Modi wants people to have religious freedom in India…If you look back India has worked hard for religious freedom,” Trump said as quoted by the Economic Times. He further said that PM Modi said they work very closely with Muslims.

Addressing a press conference, Trump said, “I’m gonna be not at all controversial because…I don’t want to blow the two days plus two days of travel on one answer, one little answer.”
It may be mentioned that violence erupted following a provocative speech allegedly made by BJP leader Kapil Mishra over the Citizenship Amendment Act on February 23rd, 2020. Slamming Mishra over his remark, BJP MP Gautam Gambhir said, “His speech is not acceptable.”
The violence, which continued to be escalated in Northeast Delhi, claimed 17 lives so far and left over 200 injured. Shoot at sight order was issued and the curfew was imposed in the region on February 25th, 2020 night.
