Detention of Farooq Abdullah Is Misuse Of Power: Tarun Gogoi

Farooq Abdullah was detained under the Public Safety Act on September 16

The former three-time Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on September 18th, 2019, said the detention of former Jammu and Kashmir CM Farooq Abdullah is a misuse of power by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led central government.

“The detention of National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah under the Public Safety Act (PSA) is nothing but a blatant misuse of power by the Modi government. It has violated the constitutional provisions. Such draconian methods have exposed the dictatorial attitude of government (sic),” the senior Assam Congress leader said.

Talking about the current situation in J&K, Gogoi said, “The situation of J&K has deteriorated to such an extent that even the SC had to intervene & ask the Govt to take all measures to restore normalcy as early as possible. The situation is so serious that the government of India should call an all-party meeting to resolve the issue (sic).”

The Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi on September 15th, 2019, said that he would visit Srinagar if the situation in Kashmir is as dire as people are suggesting.

On September 16th, 2019, the National Conference leader Abdullah was detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA). He has been kept under house arrest at his Srinagar residence since the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5.
