The Mariani police on Wednesday arrested four more accused, identified as Bijit Nayak (20), Balin Khariyan (29), Maniram Sabbar (35) and Ramen Sabbar (35), in connection with the Debasish Gogoi lynching case. With this, the number of accused arrested so far has risen to 15 while eleven others were already arrested.

According to police, late Debasish was lynched by a mob comprising of at least 50 persons on May 29 at Jorhat’s Mariani in Upper Assam amidst the ongoing lockdown.

The mob turned so brutal that it did not stop beating the youths even after the arrival of the victim’s father and sister at the spot.

Debasish, after being beaten up, succumbed to his injuries while Aditya was somehow taken to a hospital.
