    Debabrata Saikia To Move Supreme Court As Assam Govt Releases NRC Data

    Guwahati, August 2, 2019

    Leader of the opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia on July 2nd, 2019, said that he would move the Supreme Court against the government for contravening the apex court’s direction by releasing the National Register of Citizen (NRC) data in the Assembly.

    “The ruling party has released NRC data in the Assam Legislative Assembly which is against the Supreme Court’s direction. I will move the Supreme Court against this,” Saikia said. Saikia further said that the government has been striving to denounce the historic Assam Accord by implementing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

    Besides, the Congress leader said, “Discipline in the Congress party is a matter of concern at present. We will inform the matter to the party high command soon.”

    While talking about the suspension of Dulu Ahmed, Saikia said, “His suspension was a mistake of the Assam Congress.”

    Meanwhile, talking about former Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh’s joining in the BJP, Saikia said, “Giving candidature to Sanjay Singh was a mistake of the party.”
