The much-hyped Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kokrajhar district of Assam kicked off on February 7th, 2020 amidst elaborate security arrangements.

People gathered at the venue in huge numbers. The roads leading to the venue were clogged with traffic as scores of BJP cadres and Bodo people from various parts of the state headed for the Jangkhritai Pwthar.

Thousands of Modi hoardings line the roads leading to the venue, which saw a huge police presence. Young girls and boys were seen waving the tricolour as the crowd is waiting to catch a glimpse of the Prime Minister.

It will be his first visit to Assam after the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act protests rocked the state. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s government has announced a public holiday in the four districts of the BTAD – Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri.

To welcome the Prime Minister, a cultural programme of the state’s ethnic groups is being organised. Hundreds of Bodo girls will perform the traditional Bagurumba dance to welcome him.

More than four lakh people from Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) and other parts of Assam are likely to attend the rally at Jangkritai Fwtar near Kokrajhar, 216km from Guwahati.
