
Biswanath Police has arrested an Army Jawan on Thursday for allegedly posting slangs against a particular community on social media.
The Biswanath Police on their Twitter handle said that the accused identified as Amal Das, an Army Jawan posted slangs on Social Media against a particular community regarding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) which went viral.
The police said that the details of the post by the jawan cannot be shared on Twitter.
The police after receiving the complaint took immediate action and registered a case at the Biswanath Chariali Police Station.
The police added that strict legal action has been taken against the person for violating the law.
In another similar incident, a school teacher was arrested in Lakhimpur’s Narayanpur for posting an alleged communal post on social media.
The arrested person was identified as Pranab Jyoti Sarmah, a teacher of a government school in Narayanpur.
The police arrested him on Thursday morning, and during the interrogation, the teacher had allegedly been changing his statements. He is currently being interrogated and counselled by the police.
The police have been taking strict actions against people who are posting fake news as well as hate speech on social media.
Till April 8th, 2020, around 59 cases related to fake news and rumours have been registered while 33 have been arrested.
Among the arrested, one person is Aminul Islam, MLA of Dhing Legislative Assemble.
Aminul Islam was arrested under a Nagaon Police Station case (no-877/2020) under the sections 120B/153A/124A/295A of the Indian Penal Code.
SP Nagaon, Gaurav Abhijit Dilip said that the MLA was arrested based on certain complaints that he had been circulating clips and messages on social media that were highly communal and provocative which had the tendencies to create a clash between two particular communities amidst the ongoing lockdown and outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
