Cottonians Take Out Anti-Citizenship Bill Rally In Guwahati

The Centre will re-introduce the Bill in the ongoing winter session of the Parliament

Continuing its protest, the students of Cotton University on November 30th, 2019 took out a rally against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill or CAB. The students sought immediate scrapping of the controversial “anti-Assam” Bill.

A few days back, the students pasted anti-CAB posters across the varsity campus. They urged the Assam Chief Minister to “save Assam” and “protect the indigenous people” of the state. The students were joined in by the students of other educational institutes and artistes.

The students chanted slogans like ‘Withdraw CAB immediately‘, ‘Jatiya Nayak Hai Hai’ and so on. The students of the premier educational institution in Guwahati have vehemently been opposing the Bill since day one by organising protest rallies and boycotting classes.

The Centre will re-introduce the Bill in the ongoing winter session of the Parliament. The Bill seeks to grant Indian citizenship to the people belonging to the Hindus, Jains, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Parsis who have become the victims of religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan and entered India on or before December 31st, 2014.
