
The students of the Cotton University wore black badges during examination on January 3rd, 2020 in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Assam has been witnessing widespread protests since December 2019 against CAA. Five people died in the state during the anti-CAA protests.
The students of Cotton University started the new year by staging a hunger strike in front of the main entrance of the varsity on January 1st, 2020.
The Cottonians were joined by the students of the Gauhati University, Dibrugarh University and Tezpur Central Universit.

The students said that they will not accept the “anti-Assam” act at any cost and will continue to show their resentment against the Act.
Recently, student of the CU in mime get-up took out a peaceful march in Guwahati. The student, Ibrahim Khalil of the Arabic department, also drew symbols of Hinduism, Islam and Christianity on his face and started his march on December 27th, 2019 from the university gate towards Dispur before he stopped by city police near Dighalipukhuri.
In the recent past, the students of the Gauhati University attended classes sporting black badges in protest against the new citizenship law.
