The construction of the 6-lane bridge over Brahmaputra river which will connect Guwahati with North Guwahati will kick-start from March 1st, 2020.

Assam PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inspected the site on February 27th, 2020. The Minister also reviewed the arrangments with the officials regarding the bridge.

“PM Sri @narendramodi had laid the foundation stone of this. Actual construction will now start from 1st March with Bhumi Puja,” tweeted Sarma.

To bring relief to the growing traffic congestion, Sarma in his Budget Speech 2017-2018 announced the construction of two bridges across river Brahmaputra, one at Panbazar connecting to North Guwahati and the other at Palashbari connecting to Sualkuchi for which Rs 100 crore was released from the State budget in 2017-18.

Another sum of Rs 150 crore is provided in the Budget 2018-19 for construction of the Panbazar Guwahati-North Guwahati Bridge.

The Feasibility report for Panbazar-North Guwahati bridge was completed in December 2017. The alignment from the Bharalumukh point at Guwahati to North Guwahati landing at MajGaon was approved by the Government.

The DPR was completed in May 2018. The project cost is estimated at Rs 1,925 crore with the project construction period of four years.
