Congress Is Zero, We Are Hero: Ajmal On Alliance Proposal

Things flip in politics and at present Tarun Gogoi does not hold any position to make an offer: Ajmal

Dhubri MP Badruddin Ajmal who was unanimously re-elected the president of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) for the fifth consecutive term on October 26th, 2019 stated that the party forum will hold discussions in case the Congress makes a formal proposal for an electoral alliance.

When questioned that veteran Congress leader Tarun Gogoi expressed his interest in a possible tie-up with AIUDF ahead of the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, the Dhubri MP said that no such proposals have come from the State Congress unit at the moment.

“Things flip in politics and at present Gogoi does not hold any position to make an offer. But if there is a formal offer made by the state Congress unit we would give it a thought and hold discussions. The election results are evidence that they are not in a good position. Congress is zero and we are the hero now,” said Ajmal while addressing the media.

It may be mentioned that former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi yesterday said that he is open to join hands with the perfume baron led AIUDF to take on the incumbent BJP-coalition government for the forthcoming elections. In a major embarrassment, Congress lost all the four seats to incumbent BJP and AIUDF in the by-elections.

The Congress leader, who had earlier many times opposed any tie-up with the AIUDF also claimed that there is an urgent need for all the ‘anti-BJP’ forces to come together.

Attacking the BJP government on its recent decision to bring in two-child policy to get government jobs, Ajmal vehemently denied the same and asserted that they will “not listen to anyone and continue to produce children”. He further claimed that the law has been brought to “stop Muslims from getting jobs”.

On October 21st, 2019, Sarbananda Sonowal led-BJP government decided that no government jobs will be given to persons having more than two children after January 1st, 2021.

In September 2017, the Assam Assembly had passed the ‘Population and Women Empowerment Policy of Assam’. As per the policy, a person with two children would only be eligible for government employment.
