Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi from Koliabor Lok Sabha constituency on November 18th, 2019 protested in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue in Parliament premises against rising air pollution levels. The Winter Session of the Parliament got underway on November 18th, 2019.

Gogoi came to the Parliament wearing a pollution mask and held a photograph that compared healthy lungs with the lungs of a non-smoker in a polluted city.

Earlier, the MP had said that he will introduce a private member’s bill proposing amendments in the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.

He added that one of the components of the bill will include giving more access to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) so that penalties may be enforced to the lawbreakers.

Speaking about the growing menace of air pollution in the country, the Congress leader pointed out that precautionary measures are the need of the hour as it has become a public health emergency.

Gogoi, speaking to media in the premises of the Parliament, said that he wants Prime Minister Narendra Modi to introduce a new law that would help deal with the rising air pollution.
