Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on November 7th, 2019, called on the Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding various issues of the state including the Naga peace accord and privatisation of Numaligarh Refinery.
During the meeting, Sonowal urged Shah to keep an eye while signing the Naga peace accord so that it does not affect Assam. He also urged the Home Minister to take public opinion regarding privatisation of Numaligarh Refinery in consideration.
“The Home Minister assured that interests of Assam will be protected as we continue our journey of progress,” Sonowal said.
Centre’s proposed move to privatize the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited(BCPL) which will subsequently lead to the privatization of Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has been vehemently opposed by various political parties and organisations saying it will hurt the sentiments of the people.
