Continuing their protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill, the Cotton University Students’ Union (CUSU) took to the streets and burnt effigies of home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on December 3rd, 2019. The students sought immediate scrapping of the controversial “anti-Assam” Bill.
The protesters raised slogans like ‘Assam may CAB nehi chalega’, ‘scrap anti-Assam CAB’, ‘Amit Shah Murdabad’ and urged the public to support their fight against the passing of the legislation.
Earlier the students of Cotton University embarked on a massive poster making drive and adorned the campus walls with handmade posters. They also staged a silent protest with black masks.
If reports are to be believed the government is likely to clear the Bill, at a meeting of the Union Cabinet on December 4th, 2019 morning.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has asked party MPs to be present in large numbers when Shah tables the Bill in Parliament. Singh equated the significance of the Bill with the move to nullify Article 370 provisions.
