Charge Sheet Filed Against 8 In Guwahati Grenade Attack Case

12 persons had sustained severe injuries in the grenade attack in front of the Guwahati Central Mall at RG Baruah road


Five months after the incident, a special court of National Investigation Agency on November 11th, 2019, filed charge sheet against eight persons for their alleged involvement in the grenade lobbing case, which left 12 persons severely injured.

The accused are Pappu Koch Bokoliyal alias Bijoy Asom alias Anvi alias Rajini (32), of Dibrugarh; Jahnabee Saikia (49) of Kamrup (Metro); Pranamoy alias Pranmay Rajguru (57) of Sivasagar; Chinmoy Lahkar (25) of Kamrup (M); Indra Mohan Bora (25) of Nagaon; Amrit Ballav Goswami (41) of Golaghat; Sankib Talukdar (26) of Kamrup (Rural) and Prakash Rajkonwar (63) of Tinsukia district.

“Accused persons have been charged for conspiracy and indulging in terrorist acts and unlawful activities, waging war against India, conspiracy to wage war against India, illegal possession of arms and ammunition, illegal possession and use of explosive substances, harbouring of ULFA (I) terrorist, providing support to ULFA (I) terrorists and associating with ULFA (I) terrorists,” a press communiqué stated.

A case under sections 120B, 121, 121A, 122, 307 and 326 of the Indian Penal Code, section 25 (1 B) and 35 of the Arms Act, sections 3 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act and sections 13, 16, 18, 19, 20, 23, 38 and 39 of the UAPA was registered against the accused.

On May 15th, 2019, some unidentified miscreants attacked security personnel on duty at RG Baruah Road near Central Mall, Guwahati, by lobbing a grenade. This led to injuries to 12 persons in which several persons were grievously injured.

“Investigation revealed that Pappu Koch Bokoliyal was the ULFA (I) terrorist who lobbed the grenade. In this terrorist act, he was assisted by Chinmoy Lahkar. Lahkar was riding a motorcycle and Pappu was riding pillion with Lahkar, when Pappu lobbed the grenade on the security personnel on May 15th, 2019. Jahnabee Saikia had provided transportation and shelter to Pappu and was also actively involved in unlawful activities. Jahnabee was also involved in the conspiracy to commit terrorist acts and she had also concealed arms, ammunition and explosive substances in her rented house. Pranmay Rajguru and Sankib Talukdar were involved in the conspiracy, unlawful activities and in providing help and support to Pappu in committing the terrorist act. Rajguru was also in joint possession of arms, ammunition and explosive substances along with Pappu and Jahnabee. Indra Mohan Bora has provided shelter and support to Pappu. Bora is also closely associated with ULFA (I) and provided support to ULFA (I) in committing terrorist acts and other unlawful activities. Amrit Ballav Goswami and Prakash Rajkonwar were involved in the conspiracy of ULFA (I) to create an independent country of Assam. They were directly associated with ULFA (I) and provided support to ULFA (I) for committing terrorist acts and other unlawful activities,” the communiqué stated.
