The Centre is likely to sign an accord with the banned Assam-based insurgent group National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) on January 27th, 2020, the PTI reported.

The tripartite agreement will be signed in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, top leaders of the four factions of the NDFB, Joint Secretary in the Home Ministry Satyendra Garg and Assam Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna.

The agreement will be signed sans the outfit”s key demand of a separate Bodoland state or union territory, the PTI reported.

The four factions of the NDFB, which will sign the pact, are led by Ranjan Daimary, Govinda Basumatary, Dhiren Boro and B Saoraigwra. Daimary, who was serving life imprisonment in the 2008 serial bomb blasts case, was released from the Guwahati Central Jail on interim bail on January 25th, 2020.

Daimary will be flown to Delhi on January 25th, 2020 to join the peace parleys to sign a new Bodo accord. The leaders of the other faction of the NDFB are already stationed in New Delhi for the peace talks.

M Batha alias Binod Mushahary and B Bidai alias Bishnu Basumatary, two top leaders of the NDFB-S, came overground along with 600 cadres on January 22nd, 2020 from undisclosed camps along India-Bhutan border in Assam’s Kokrajhar district. Last week, the NDFB-S signed the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement and agreed to abjure violence and join the peace talks.

It may be mentioned, eight NDFB-S militants were part of the 644 militants who surrendered in Guwahati on January 23rd, 2020, before Chief Minister Sonowal and Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.
