
Guwahati reported its first novel coronavirus (COVID-19) positive case taking the total count of positive cases in Assam to 24.
A well-known 34-year-old businessman became the first person to test positive for the novel coronavirus in Guwahati. The businessman hails from Nagaon and stays at the Spanish Garden Apartments in Zoo Road.
Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed via Twitter on the night of April 3rd, 2020, that four more COVID-19 positive cases have been reported in the State – one each from Kamrup (metro), Kamrup, Golaghat and Morigaon.
Three cases out of these four are related to the Nizamuddin Markaz event. A total of eight positive cases for COVID-19 have been detected in Assam in the last 24 hours.
Earlier in the day on April 3rd, 2020, four more positive cases of COVID-19 were reported in the State.
Three of these are from Nalbari, and one is from South Salmara. All these four persons are also associated with Nizamuddin Markaz event.
The Nizamuddin Markaz has become the biggest domestic source of coronavirus disease COVID-19 in the country.
All the state governments are tracing and identifying all those who attended the gathering and came in contact with the returnee.
A large number of people in Assam, who came in contact with Nizamuddin Markaz attendees, have already been placed under quarantine at the Sarusajoi Stadium in Guwahati as a precautionary measure.
