With the general elections of the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) is around the corner, all the political parties have pulled their socks up to pocket the council. Ahead of the polling to be held on April 4th, 2020, untoward incidents were reported from parts of the BTAD region.
A temporary office of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) was set on fire in the wee hours of March 12th, 2020 at Bhirangaon under Dhaligaon Police Station in Western Assam’s Chirang district.
UPPL accused Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) of vandalizing the office. “BPF is in fear after seeing the people’s support towards UPPL for which they set the office on fire,” Maneswar Khakhlary, Secretary of Kajalgaon Block Committee, said.
“We were in the office till 11.30 pm on March 11th, 2020. The incident took place after we had left the office,” he added.
The last date of filing the nominations is March 18th, 2020 and the last date of withdrawing the nominations is March 21st, 2020. Re-polling will be held on April 6th, 2020, if necessary and the counting will be held on April 8th, 2020.
A total of 23,86,359 electors will exercise franchise in 3077 polling stations across 40 BTC constituencies. A total of 521 polling stations have been identified as very sensitive.
