Veteran journalist Atanu Bhuyan is all set to contest the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. He likely to be the third candidate from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance.
Journalist Moon Goswami collected the nomination papers on behalf of Bhuyan on March 12th, 2020.
The BJP has selected Bhubaneshwar Kalita as the party’s candidate for one of the three seats for the upcoming Rajya Sabha election in Assam.
The Congress and the All India United Democratic Front on March 11th, 2020 unanimously named senior journalist Ajit Bhuyan as their Rajya Sabha candidate from Assam.
Out of the three seats, two were left vacant after Kalita and Sanjay Sinh joined the BJP after quitting Congress.
On the other hand, the third seat has been left vacant due to completion of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) leader Biswajit Daimary’s term.
However, eyeing a third straight term, Daimary on March 11th, 2020 filed his nomination for the polls from Assam backed by the NDA partners BJP and the Asom Gana Parishad.
The elections to the three Rajya Sabha seats, which will fall vacant on April 9th, 2020, are scheduled for March 26th, 2020.
