Arrested Lachit Sena leader Shrinkhal Chaliha was produced at the CJM Court in Guwahati on December 26th, 2019.

He was greeted by supporters at the premises of the court. His supporters chanted slogans like ‘Joi Aai Asom’, ‘Shrinkhal Chaliha Zindabad’ as he was brought to the court. Senior advocate Upamanyu Hazarika to appear for the activist.

“We will not accept CAA. We will not allow any comprise with our motherland,” he told media persons.

Earlier in the day, the CID of Assam Police raided the residence of Shrinkhal at Phukan Nagar, Sivasagar. The raid was conducted from 6:45 am. The officials interrogated his family members and have also seized the mobile handset of Rakajyoti Chaliha, Shrinkhal ‘s mother.

He was arrested in Dibrugarh on December 23rd, 2019 and brought to Guwahati. Several leaders of the Lachit Sena were taken into custody by the police after an anti-CAA rally at Borboruah in Dibrugarh.

The CID has registered a case (30/2019) against Shrinkhal on charges of making provocative statements against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA).The case has been registered under Sections 120 (B) / 121 / 120 (A) / 121 (A) / 122 / 123 / 143 / 147 / 148 / 150 / 152/153/153(A)/326/333/353 of IPC.
