Assam Congress leader Mozammil Hoque was arrested on January 19th, 2020 by the Kamrup Police probing rape charges against him. Hoque was the former general secretary of Barpeta unit of Assam Congress.

Hoque, who was absconding for long, was arrested from a resort in Kaziranga. His name also surfaced in Rakesh Jalan’s multi-crore excise scam.

Jalan is a prime accused in the multi-crore excise scam that took place in Assam during the tenure of the previous Tarun Gogoi government.
