7 Killed, Over 30 Injured As Bus Falls Into Gorge In Assam’s Goalpara

In a tragic incident, seven persons died on the spot and over 30 sustained injuries after a Guwahati-bound night bus rammed into an electric pole and skidded off the road into a ditch in Goalpara on February 4th, 2020.

The deceased persons have been identified as Abida Khatun (61), Chandan Saha (48), Gokul Roy, Montu Sheikh (46), Abdul Hussain Miya (61), Hafiz Uddin Sheikh (72) and Deepa Saha.

The bus was coming from Dhubri when it lost control near the Kothakothi area in Goalpara’s Dhupdhara and rammed into an electric pole.

The other passengers in the bus sustained severe injuries and have been rushed to a nearby hospital. The surviving passengers were rescued by the Army.

Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal condoled the demise of the road accident victims and directed Goalpara Deputy Commissioner to facilitate medical facilities to the injured.
