A man from Assam’s Lanka was granted permission to travel by road to attend his father’s last rites by the Bombay High Court.
The person named, Binny Dholani’s father died on April 5th, 2020 and owing to the lockdown situation due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) he had been unable to visit Assam. Since he had no options he filed a petition at the Bombay High Court to allow him to fly to Assam in a cargo plane from Pune.
The HS held a hearing on the issue and further Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh for Centre and Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) was also heard if anything could have been arranged. However, the DGCA said that the request for a passenger to fly on a cargo flight could not be fulfilled as there are several other deaths as well and the only special flights are permitted to fly due to which the petitioner’s appeal could not be fulfilled.
Anil Singh further added that the man, however, could travel by road if he desired.
Dholani has now sought time till April 15th, 2020 from the HC through his lawyer to decide if he would travel alone.
The HC after this in an order said that once the man decides the route, it should be conveyed to the authorities so that the passes and other necessary arrangements can be made.
