BJP Will Win 2021 Assam Assembly Election With Unprecedented Record: Himanta

Congress is doing cheap politics over the Citizenship Amendment Act: Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on December 25th, 2019, said that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party will win the 2021 state Assembly Elections with an “unprecedented record”.

Launching a blistering attack on the Congress for indulging in “cheap politics” over the amended Citizenship Act, the minister said, “I would like to tell the Congress that they cannot defeat BJP attacking from the behind. Congress is doing cheap politics over the law.”

Talking about the illegal migrants’ issue, Sarma said, “Congress did not ensure security to the Hindus living in Bangladesh for which now Assam has to take as burden of illegal migrants from 1972 to 2014. Even, the then Congress government kept the border with Bangladesh open.”

Speaking on the widespread of misleading information regarding the act, he said, “There was never such kind of widespread of misleading information earlier. Congress is the root cause for which the state has faced such kind of situation.”

The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, which was passed by the parliament on December 11th, 2019, seeks to grant Indian citizenship to Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and Parsis, who have become victims of religious persecution in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh and entered into India on or before December 31st, 2014 and lived without documentation.

The act triggered massive protests across the country. Protestors demanded immediate scrapping of the act.
