The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Punjab Police on July 17th, 2019 arrested the outlawed Jamaat-ud-Dawa(JuD) chief and Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed from Pakistan’s Lahore. He was been reportedly sent to judicial remand.
Saeed was earlier booked along with 12 accomplices for terror funding. 23 cases were registered in Lahore, Gujranwala and Multan in Punjab province against Hafiz Saeed and 23 others in terror-related cases by the Pakistan counter-terrorism department.
However, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore had granted interim bail to Saeed and three of his aides, Hafiz Masood, Ameer Hamza, and Malik Zafar as the government said they did not produce concrete evidence before the court.
The arrest comes a day after Pakistan expressed its hope that Prime Minister Imran Khan’s maiden trip to the White House will help repair its 18-year-old conflict with the United States. Khan and President Donald Trump are slated to meet on July 22nd as Washington presses for Pakistani assistance in securing a peace deal.
