Barpeta Man Sets Off Journey On Foot To Guwahati In Protest Against Citizenship Act

Following the Gandhian ideology, a man from Western Assam’s Barpeta district on December 29th, 2019, set off a journey to Guwahati on foot in protest against the amended Citizenship Act.

The man – Gunajit Sarma told the reporters that he would submit a memorandum before the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal demanding immediate ‘scrapping’ of the contentious act for the interest of the greater Assamese community.

Appealing the people to follow the path of non-violence to protest against the act, Sarma said, “The people of the state do not support the act and will continue to protest until the act is scrapped. But, we must remember the principles of Mahatma Gandhi and follow the path of the non-violence.”

He further informed that he would go to Delhi to submit a memorandum before the President of India demanding scrapping of the act.
